Loss
On April 26th, 2006 J.Kwest suffered a great loss, his
friend and original member of Double Threat Entertainment
Benjamin "BreeZe" Uwumarogie was shot in the head by the
police. The police states the man was a danger to his
children and the officer himself, therefore deadly forced
was used. The family has protested against this police
action.
Remembers
J.Kwest remembers him: "Ben was my friend and the first
rapper, who was not gospel, who readily did songs with me
and gave me the confidence to make my pure music universal
instead of "Church".
New release
Despite the hardships a new mixtape is released named Are &
Be in 2006. The title is explained by J.Kwest as "Love who
you ARE, strive to BE better (or, If you ARE, then BE)".
Compilation
His track "So Blessed" is also featured on the compilation
Holy Hip Hop : Taking The Gospel To The Streets Volume 4
(2006).
Awards
J.Kwest will be receiving a Holy Hip Hop Award recognizing
his effort in the hip hop community. The 2007 Holy Hip Hop
Awards are being held in January 2007 in Atlanta.
Verbal Kwest
In 2009 J.Kwest teamed up with BreevEazie as Verbal Kwest to
release the album: Batman & Batman.
Politics
J.Kwest supported the Democratic presidential candidate
Barack Obama with the campaign song "I am (Obama)" released
on February 29th, 2008. He wrote the song in July 2007.
New Projects
on June 28th, 2007 the MC announced two new projects:
- 20/20: The REVision: a remix album of 20/20
- J.Kwest's Solo LP
