Run (Joseph Simmons), Jam Master Jay (Jason Mizell) and DMC
(Daryll McDaniels) also made a record, which could be
labeled as holyhiphop. This album Down with the king was
released in 1993 .
 Jam Master Jay
The crew officially retired shortly after the death of Jam
Master Jay, who got shot in a recording studio in Queens,
New York on October 30, 2002.

 Reverend Run
During their performances in the end of the nineteen
nineties, Run would preach to the public for a moment. He
has been ordained in the Pentecostal church and is therefore
“Reverend Run". His change of heart came after hitting rock
bottom financially and in his private life. Run says "My
musical and financial successes were no longer enough. I
needed for the pain to stop...I turned to God".
Run is perceived as a prosperity preacher, although the
gospel message is not strongly presented in the music the
positive attitude he wants to bring in hip hop is noble. A
solo album called Distortion is expected in September
2005.
